The long version.

Twenty years of building infrastructure, companies, and products across two continents.

I grew up in Hong Kong and left at 17 for Rice University in Houston. I spent the next two decades building companies in the Bay Area. These days I dual-home between San Francisco and Hong Kong—close to both the US tech ecosystem and family back home in Asia.

I'm currently exploring new ventures as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sutter Hill Ventures, after co-founding Lirvana Labs (2021–2025) with my sister Christie. Under the Yeti Confetti Kids brand, we built AI Learning Companions to meaningfully improve children's literacy and reasoning skills, working alongside a collective of engaged families across Asia and the US.

Before Lirvana, I co-founded Wavefront (2013–2017), a massively scalable time-series observability platform that VMware acquired for $400M. As Chief Architect, I led the design of systems processing 20M+ data points per second with real-time analytics—now powering mission-critical operations at Microsoft, Snowflake, Box, Lyft, Workday, DoorDash, Intuit, Groupon, and hundreds of other companies.

I stayed on through the acquisition as VP / Principal Engineer in VMware's Modern Applications Platform BU (2017–2021), where we grew revenue 10x over three years and shipped distributed tracing, a next-generation query planner, and a self-tuning TSDB. Multiple patents filed along the way.

Before Wavefront, I was a founding engineer at GLMX (2010–2013), where a team of five built a money market trading platform from scratch. It launched in 2012 and today processes over $1T in daily trading volume.

Earlier, I spent three years at Google as a Staff Software Engineer (2007–2010), tech-leading the fraud and abuse infrastructure that protected AdWords, AdSense, Checkout, and Gmail through machine learning and signal processing. Recipient of the Google Founders' Award (2010).

My journey spans 20+ years building purposeful technology—from protecting billions of users at Google, to architecting financial infrastructure, to democratizing enterprise observability, to reimagining education through AI. The throughline is the same: build products that solve real problems at scale while improving human well-being.
